Children and Youth Programs

WELCOME! At First Unitarian in 2011-12, we will explore our sense of purpose and take actions that help us fulfill our purpose in life.

Primary (ages 5-7): Using a curriculum called “Wonderful Welcome” and a wide variety of games, crafts and stories, the children will explore the many intangible gifts that enrich and give purpose to our lives.

Intermediate (ages 8-10): The children will delve into the story of the universe and explore questions about our place in it using a program entitled We Are Made of Stardust. Later, they will explore the guidance that our lens of our Unitarian Universalist Sources can offer, with a curriculum entitled Love Will Guide Us.

Junior Youth (ages 10-13):will begin the church year by getting to know a few of our Neighbouring Faiths. What do other faith groups say about purpose? We’ll take field trips to other places of worship. In January, ages 10-11 will fill their metaphoric Toolbox of Faith with supplies that help us achieve our purpose in life. Concurrently, ages 12 and 13 will be offered Middle School where human sexuality and gender identity will be explored within a safe small group setting with sensitivity and respect.

Youth (ages 14-18) work with adult mentors to co-create a vibrant, engaging programme . This year we hope to add more worship and new social action projects. Monthly movie nights are also on the agenda!

Childcare is available for children 4 and under.

Our Approach: We offer a nurturing community to support children and families in spiritual growth and learning. All classes are taught by trained volunteers who are screened for safety.
