Children's Religious Education

Our Vision Statement and Philosophy

Religious growth and learning is a life-long exploration of the individual within a supporting and nurturing community. Our aim is to support the development of:

  • Ethical principles
  • Tolerance for religious diversity
  • Love and respect for self and others
  • Awareness of the interconnectedness of all existence while nurturing a sense of awe and wonder

In an inviting, safe, stimulating environment, our Religious Education Program explores:

  • Our Unitarian Universalist values, history and traditions
  • Our Judeo-Christian heritage
  • World religions
  • Personal growth and spirituality
  • Social justice issues and opportunities to contribute to our church and community

We offer our program within an atmosphere of fun, creativity and adventure.

Our philosophy involves at least five different aspects:

  1. social - our children need to relax in with their peers, to do fun things together
  2. social action - making a difference in our local and global community, striving to right some of the social wrongs in our world
  3. worship - we stop and reflect on whatever we hold sacred; for some of us, this is a deity; for others, the mystery of life
  4. self-esteem and leadership - skills to help our young people become independent adults
  5. formal teaching - we use various curricula to provide learning experiences for our children

We offer our Children's Program because we believe that our values need to be carried into the future through our children. Living our seven principles is a process- a dynamic growing experience- not a statement of belief.
